One of Uptown’s best-known dining rooms appears to be preparing for a very short move and a very different address.
A recently filed construction record points to a new Truluck’s inside One Uptown, the residential tower at 2619 McKinney Avenue. That is only a short walk north of the restaurant’s longtime home at 2401 McKinney Avenue, but the change would move Truluck’s from a freestanding building into the base of a modern high-rise.
What the filing shows
Published reports based on a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing describe a retrofit of approximately 9,267 square feet of second-generation restaurant space at One Uptown. The estimated construction cost is $2 million, with work tentatively scheduled to begin in October 2026 and conclude in March 2027.
Those dates and costs should be treated as preliminary. State filings often offer the first public look at a project, but they can change before construction begins. Truluck’s and representatives of the One Uptown ownership had not publicly confirmed the relocation when the reports appeared. Truluck’s official website still lists 2401 McKinney Avenue as its Dallas address.
Why Truluck’s may be moving
The existing Truluck’s sits on the block being discussed for a major Morgan Stanley office hub. A move to One Uptown would clear the way for that larger redevelopment while allowing the restaurant to remain in the neighborhood it has helped define.
That distinction matters. Truluck’s is not simply another seafood chain passing through town. Its Dallas dining room has long been part of Uptown’s special-occasion geography, a place for stone crab, business dinners, anniversaries, a drink at the bar and the sort of evening when dessert arrives on fire because restraint has already left the table.
A different kind of Uptown address
The possible move also tells a larger story about McKinney Avenue. The current restaurant belongs to an earlier version of Uptown, when a destination could occupy its own building, sit behind a generous setback and depend heavily on valet arrivals. One Uptown represents the neighborhood’s newer pattern: residences above, restaurants below and several reasons to arrive on foot.
Moving into a high-rise could give Truluck’s a more immediate relationship with the sidewalk and place it among the residents, hotel guests, office workers and Katy Trail regulars who already move through this stretch of Uptown. The restaurant would also join an established dining cluster around One Uptown rather than trying to recreate its clientele somewhere unfamiliar.
The tradeoff is atmosphere. The existing building has a strong sense of arrival and a familiar upstairs perch over McKinney Avenue. The new restaurant will have to translate that occasion-worthy identity into a ground-floor space. A $2 million build-out suggests this is intended to be more than a temporary landing spot.
The best possible outcome for regulars
As someone who lives and works nearby and considers Truluck’s a favorite, the encouraging part is simple: this looks less like a goodbye than a move up the street.
If the project proceeds as filed, Uptown keeps one of its signature restaurants, One Uptown gains a substantial new anchor and a much larger redevelopment can advance at the old location. That is an unusually tidy outcome in a neighborhood where growth often means losing the very places that gave the area its personality.
For now, reservations, happy hour and dinner continue at the current Truluck’s at 2401 McKinney Avenue. Until the restaurant announces the move directly, the new location remains an apparent plan rather than a confirmed opening.
