It isn’t finished. Neither am I. Let’s proceed anyway.

After four weeks without a published article, and an absolutely unreasonable number of hours spent writing code with two very talented men, I have decided that THE DALLAS REGISTRY is ready to be seen.

Is the website actually ready?

Absolutely not.

But “ready” is beginning to feel like one of those words people use when they would like to postpone something indefinitely. At some point, “coming soon” stops sounding promising and starts sounding vaguely threatening.

So I am launching THE DALLAS REGISTRY the way one might host a dinner party while the kitchen is still being painted: confidently, enthusiastically, and hoping no one leans against the wrong wall.

Here are 10 excellent reasons to visit.

1. You Can Find All the Broken Links Before I Do

Think of it as an interactive scavenger hunt; except instead of prizes, you may find a missing photograph, a button experiencing an identity crisis, or a link leading into the digital wilderness.

Some pages work beautifully. Others are still quietly reconsidering their will to live.

If you find something broken, please feel free to laugh. Honey, I’m in on the joke.

In fact, I am the joke.

Then tell me where you found it so I can fix it.

2. You Can Play Dallas Themed Wordle and the Mini Crossword

Yes, Dallas now has its own Wordle and mini crossword because apparently simply reading about Dallas was no longer enough. We must now prove how much we know about it under pressure.

The words and clues are connected to Dallas people, places, neighborhoods, landmarks, institutions, food, history, and assorted pieces of local trivia you may not realize have been occupying valuable space in your brain.

Play alone. Compete with your friends. Send your results to someone who did not ask for them or post them on your social media and brag.

And when you miss an answer that every self-respecting Dallas resident should know, please understand that the game is not judging you.

I am.

3. We May Have the Coolest Local Search Engine in Dallas

This part actually works—and I am embarrassingly proud of it.

Search for restaurants, shops, services, parks, pet businesses, real estate, and other local places by category and neighborhood. Then, with one click, see what is closest to you and who is open right now.

No endless list of places 27 miles away. No falling in love with the perfect restaurant only to discover it closed 46 minutes ago.

Just nearby places currently capable of letting you through the door.

But a local directory is only as useful as the information inside it. If you own a Dallas business, claim your listing so you can keep your hours, photographs, contact information, services, and other details accurate.

And if you find a business you love, tell them to claim their listing. The tighter the information becomes, the better The Registry can connect local businesses with the people actively looking for them.

That is how this becomes more than a directory. It becomes a living, reliable map of local Dallas.

4. Our Enormous Marketplace Is Beautifully Stocked With Absolutely Nothing

THE DALLAS REGISTRY Marketplace is a large, beautifully constructed online store currently enjoying the serene minimalism of having almost nothing in it.

Think of it as an enormous digital department store before anyone has moved in the merchandise.

It is waiting for the furniture, artwork, clothing, décor, collectibles, household treasures, regrettable impulse purchases, and miscellaneous junk you have been meaning to turn into cash.

You know the things I mean. They are too good to throw away, too valuable to donate, and have been sitting in the same corner of your home for so long that they are beginning to qualify as permanent residents.

List them in the Marketplace. Someone nearby may be searching for exactly what you are tired of looking at. Since we’re all local, there is no shipping!

Your clutter could be someone else’s discovery and, more importantly, someone else’s clutter.

5. You Can Explore Dallas One Neighborhood at a Time

Dallas is not one place. It is a collection of neighborhoods with wildly different personalities, histories, buildings, restaurants, rituals, and opinions about parking.

The Registry connects stories, businesses, homes, local discoveries, and marketplace finds through the neighborhoods they belong to. Because where something is located is not a footnote.

It is part of the story.

6. You Can Find Something to Eat

Food remains one of our highest forms of local research.

We will talk about celebrated restaurants, neighborhood institutions, dishes worth rearranging your day for, and recipes that looked “quick and easy” online but somehow consumed an entire weekend and every pan in the house.

The eternal question remains: Where should we eat?

THE DALLAS REGISTRY may not be able to solve every problem in your life, but it can probably help with lunch, dinner or happy hour.

7. There Are Dogs

Obviously.

The Pets section includes local resources, community posts, rescue stories, foster needs, useful information, and occasional appearances by my boys, Otto and Giorgio who have never met a deadline, contributed to the hosting bill, or fixed a broken link.

Still, they remain senior management.

Morale is their department.

8. You Can Look at Beautiful Homes Without Pretending You’re Moving

Real estate belongs in THE DALLAS REGISTRY because homes are inseparable from the neighborhoods and lives around them.

Explore properties, buildings, architecture, and the delicious little details that make a place compelling—even if you are perfectly happy where you live and simply enjoy looking inside other people’s houses.

That is not nosiness.

That is architectural appreciation.

Please use the proper terminology.

9. You Can Watch The Registry Become What It Is Supposed to Be

This website is not meant to be a finished digital brochure sitting untouched on a shelf.

It is meant to grow—with more businesses, richer neighborhood guides, useful local tools, community participation, games, stories, recommendations, marketplace listings, homes, dogs, dinner plans, and whatever else makes life in Dallas more interesting.

You are not arriving after everything has been completed.

You are arriving while it is “becoming” which sounds far more intentional than “they are still working on it.”

10. Dallas Deserves Something Local, Useful, and a Little Bit Personal

The internet gives us an astonishing amount of information and remarkably little sense of place.

THE DALLAS REGISTRY is my attempt to create something different: a living guide to the people, places, businesses, homes, food, pets, neighborhoods, and everyday discoveries that make Dallas feel like Dallas.

It will be useful. It will be beautiful. It will be funny when appropriate, and occasionally when it is not.

It will also have mistakes.

But it is here.

After waiting for the perfect moment, I finally realized the perfect moment was the thing holding everything up.

So come visit. Click around. Play a game. Search your neighborhood. Claim your business. List some junk to sell. Find somewhere new. Tell me what you love, what you want, and what I managed to break.

Welcome to THE DALLAS REGISTRY.

Mind the wet paint.
